7th/9th Grade New Mexico History
SYLLABUS – 2018/2019 Joaquin Martinez – [email protected] Welcome to New Mexico History! This is an inquiry based class designed to foster curiosity, creativity, and responsibility. As we explore the topics listed below, we will complete formative and summative assessments, which will culminate in one product for each unit. Formative Assessments This is work done in class, homework, and quizzes. These can be seen as practice, or rehearsal, depending on your perspective. Summative Assessments This is made up of tests, projects, Socratic Seminars and an individually created product for each Unit. This can be seen as the match/game or performance, depending on your perspective. GRADE COMPOSITION Formative Assessments: 33.3% - many of these per unit Summative Assessments: 33.3% - few of these per unit Individual Product*: 33.3% - one of these per unit Homework, Late Work, Test Corrections, etc., will follow ATC Policy. *The Individual Product will vary from unit to unit, but some examples are art projects, newspaper/pamphlet creations, persuasive essays, presentations, etc. TEXT Each student will have an in class hardback copy of A HISTORY OF NEW MEXICO AND A HISTORY OF NEW MEXICO SINCE STAEHOOD and access to digital copies via my website. This comes with a digital database. We will also have a GOOGLE CLASSROOM where we will share assignments and other communications. ALL PARENTS WILL HAVE ACCESS TO THIS GOOGLE CLASSROOM. In addition to this database, please check the class website for notifications. This can be accessed at atcschool.org.
